Day 14

As we were worshiping today in church, I read this scripture out of the Message. It's one that most people who have grown up in church have heard all of their lives, but I love the way that Peterson puts it.

Matthew 6:33-34

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

We did an acoustic set today with just two guitars and three vocals and it was a great way to recenter ourselves on God's initiative of being glorified instead of being so focused on our pseudo-rock-n-roll initiative. I love worshiping with a full band, but I guess it's just nice to remember that we can worship with an orchestra or a capella and still bring God just as much glory.

God, may our church do everything we can to steep ourselves in You and not in our own selfish ambitions. Father, teach us to lead them in that way. Show us the path to bringing more glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
